Dr. Merrill is the director of the Biomechanics department, which centers around injury causation pertaining to motor vehicle accidents, occupational injuries, pedestrian injuries, and slip, trip, and fall events. Additionally, he has completed the Accident Reconstruction Certificate Program through SAE International, and holds an FAA commercial drone license.

Dr. Merrill earned a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Bioengineering (Biomechanics track), both from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019. He has worked for BioEx Consulting since April, 2019 as a biomechanical consultant and department lead. His academic and professional work has included publications as first author in multiple leading journals, including Journal of Biomechanics and Ergonomics, in addition to several manuscripts published as coauthor, and numerous conference abstracts, proceedings, and presentations. He has also served as a peer reviewer for several publications in the fields of biomechanics and ergonomics and worked as a mentor for multiple undergraduate engineering students and interns. Dr. Merrill is a member of SAE International, Biomedical Engineering Society, and American Society of Biomechanics.
